Pros and Cons  Ram air foil kites vs LEI Kites

Ram air foil Kites.

1.1/3 of the weight of the same size LEI kite, also can pack must smaller for travel

2. No air pump needed

3.Able to fly in very light winds

4.Higher lift efficiency and better glide

5.Better lift to drag ratio, ideal for upwind riding and big air.

6.Larger wind window , able to foil in light winds and change to kiteboarding in higher winds without changing kites.

7. Good for kiteboarding , Kitefoiling and snowboarding.

8. Self launch and landing easier with training

Cons

Both kites have a learning curve

Slower then a LEI in turning, looping the kite is faster

LEI Kites

1.Simple setup.

2. Turns faster

3. Better in surf if the kite hits the water.

Cons

Needs pump, bulker for packing , weights more, less efficient in light winds,

Much smaller riding wind window, leaks,,

Training and learning your kite is important, learning to relaunch from the water is about  the same learning curve. Since I started flying ram air kites I wont go back to LEI kites, I also start new students on ram air kites.   Ive gone from 4 different LEI size kites to only one ram air Gin spirit 6m  I can foil 9mph up to 25 mph or switch to a kiteboard around 18 mph  (1 kite), I have many club members switching to ram air because of that reason also travel is easier. Im on the water riding more now then ever before.  You want more ride time get a gin ram air foil kite....
